Former Manchester United hitman Dimitar Berbatov has likened the club's acquisition of Edinson Cavani to their 2007 signing of Henrik Larsson.
In a bid to bolster his attacking options, Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer signed the 33-year-old striker on a free transfer on Monday night.
Cavani, who was at French champions Paris Saint-Germain last season, has penned a one-year deal at Old Trafford.
The Uruguay international will bring a wealth of experience to United's attacking line.
And despite the former Napoli man being in the twilight of his career, Berbatov reckons he can make a similar impact to the one Larsson made at the Theatre of Dreams when he was signed on loan by Sir Alex Ferguson.
"I see they picked up Cavani and [Alex] Telles, and now the window is closed without signing a centre-back," Berbatov told Betfair."
"I am a huge fan of Cavani however- he brings lots of goals and plenty of experience, and that can only be a benefit.
"It's a fair question to ask why maybe United didn't sign him sooner, but probably they were working at something else that fell through, and he was a brilliant alternative.
"The likes of Ibrahimovic and Henrik Larsson had huge impacts late in their careers at United, and Cavani can do the same."
Berbatov reckons the signing of Cavani will aid the development of current United forwards Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood,
"He can be a great help to Martial, Rashford, and Greenwood," the Bulgarian added. "He is sure to have had a good talk with Ole before signing, and while he won't have demanded to play every game, he isn't coming to sit on the bench either.
"Some will say this is a panic buy, but with the speculation of players that didn't sign, it's clear they wanted an attacking player.
"[Jadon] Sancho may not have worked out, so they get Cavani instead, and he can score goals.
"The really interesting question is how it affects the young boys, and what this means for [Odion] Ighalo."
