Edinson Cavani trains with Man Utd for first time as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ponders big decision

Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani has trained with his new team-mates for the first time since joining the club.

Cavani completed a move to Old Trafford on a free transfer at the end of the transfer window.

But he was forced to quarantine for 14 days after arriving from France from outside an elite sporting bubble.

The Uruguayan gave fans a glimpse of what to expect with a video of him running on a treadmill in full training gear.

But Cavani has now completed his period in isolation and is now in training with his new team-mates at the club’s Carrington training centre.

It’s thought he may take some time to get back to match fitness after more than three months on the sidelines.

But Cavani could well now make his debut for United on Tuesday when they travel to face PSG for their opening Champions League group game.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be hoping that the 33-year-old is fit enough to feature, though Mason Greenwood may be fit enough to make the squad too, in order to give the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial a break.

Former United and France striker Louis Saha has revealed his thoughts on the decision to snap up Cavani.

The Premier League journeyman gave the move a big thumbs up, and said that despite his age, Cavani should provide the Red Devils with a consistent source of goals.

“Yes, I was really excited about this signing,” Saha told Goal.

“I wished he joined last year, I have followed him since he played at Napoli, I am a Parisian so I have seen most of his 200 goals. He is considered to be a legend over there.

“At the same time, he is a guarantee. Cavani gives you a certain performance through his running, ability to cause stress to defenders, lead from the front and score goals. That can only be good.”
