Edinson Cavani 'to quit PSG' and skip Champions League finale

Edinson Cavani will leave PSG at the end of his contract meaning he will miss the remainder of their Champions League campaign.

The Uruguayan was always expected to leave the Parc des Princes at the end of his contract.

The Ligue 1 season was ended early due to the coronavirus, although the Parisians were awarded the title, but the Champions League will still be completed in August.

PSG progressed past Borussia Dortmund in their last 16 tie and will be part of the mini knockout tournament that will take place in Portugal.

It had been suggested that Cavani, and his team-mate Thomas Meunier, would extend their deals so that they could play in the European competition.

But that is no longer the case after the Uruguayan rejected an offer from the club and will now seek pastures new, reports RMC Sport.

Cavani has enjoyed a glittering career in the French capital since joining from Napoli in 2013.

He has scored 200 times in 301 appearances to make him the club's all-time leading goalscorer.

The striker has been linked with a host of clubs, including Chelsea and Atletico Madrid, and won't be short of options.

His next move has not yet been announced, although he has previously suggested retirement could be on the cards.

"Right now, I am playing towards the end of my contract (2020) & possibly my career," he said.

"I will be 33 going on 34 when it is up. I do not know if I will continue after 2020 & if it will be in Paris. I feel good here, though, & I want to see my deal out."

Thiago Silva and Layvin Kurzawa will also leave PSG, but they have extended their deals to allow them to play in the Champions League.
