Edinson Cavani to Manchester United confirmed: Uruguay striker seals free transfer deadline day move

Manchester United have completed the signing or Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani on a free transfer.

Cavani has been a free agent since leaving Paris Saint-Germain when his contract expired at the end of last season.

The 33-year-old has been one of Europe’s leading strikers over the past decade.

He joined Italian side Napoli in 2010 and enjoyed three prolific seasons, scoring 78 league goals in just 104 games before making the switch to PSG.

In Paris, he was part of the side that have dominated Ligue 1, winning six titles in seven years, as well as the Coupe de France four times.

He played a part in last year’s run to the Champions League final but did not feature in the latter stages, following football’s coronavirus shutdown.

At international level, Cavani has represented his country at three World Cups, including the 2010 edition in South Africa, where Uruguay reached the semi-finals.

He also won the Copa America in 2011 and has scored 50 goals in his 116 caps.
