Edinson Cavani sends Manchester United fans wild with Twitter post

Manchester United fans cannot wait to see Edinson Cavani make his debut for the club and the new signing fuelled their excitement with a post on his Twitter account.

Cavani, 33, signed a one-year-deal on deadline day, with the option to extend it for a further 12 months and has already expressed his desire to trigger the clause that would extend his stay at Old Trafford.

United handed the Uruguay international the iconic No.7 shirt following Alexis Sanchez's permanent departure to Inter Milan and Cavani has already promised to follow in the footsteps of the United greats to have worn the shirt in the past.

Supporters may be forced to wait to see the former Paris Saint-Germain striker in action given he is currently self-isolating after travelling to the UK. As a result, he is set to miss next week's Premier League clash against Newcastle meaning he is in line to make his United debut against PSG on October 20.

Following his arrival, Cavani conducted a number of interviews with the club's official website and posted a snippet of his chat to his Twitter account which led to hundreds of United supporters flooding his replies to express their excitement ahead of his debut.

Both Rio Ferdinand and Robin van Persie told United to make a move for the former Napoli man prior to deadline day and Cavani admitted it was flattering to receive praise from two club greats.

He said: "These are the kind of pleasant things that football can give you. When a players of that ilk and players of that quality within the game, give you a… how can I put it, make a comment, or express their opinion about me and speak in those terms.

"I thanked [Van Persie] the first time he’d spoken about me, I thanked him on social media. And he replied to me and also showed his kindness, his appreciation and his admiration as a footballer.

"These are the nice things that come out of football, that you take on board, and they are useful to you as motivation for what lies ahead."
