Edinson Cavani's mum provides transfer update on star linked to Atletico, Chelsea and Man United

Edinson Cavani's mum has revealed that a move to Atletico Madrid is still possible for her son.

Cavani was a target for many teams in January with his contract expiring at the end of the season, with Chelsea and Manchester United said to have been interested.

The striker asked to leave PSG in January, but no deal could be agreed between the two clubs, with Atletico said to have made an opening offer of €10million (£8.5m).

That offer was rejected, and the La Liga side declined to improve their offer before the end of the January window.

Mundo Deportivo state that an agreement was not reached because Cavani's borther and agent Water Fernando was demanding an €18million (£15.3million) fee - wihch Atletico were not prepared to pay.

Atletico president Enrique Cerezo hinted at this recently, stating: "I don't want to point anyone out, but I think it's a shame about the situation of some players with their relatives and their representatives. It's outrageous. We're not here to be robbed or do anything strange."

Cavani's brother responded to the claims, stating that if money were his motivation, a move to Chelsea or Manchester United would have come through.

And now Cavani's mother says that a move to Atletico could still happen - but only if Cerezo apologises for his remarks on the deal.

"It is not impossible that Edinson could go to Atletico Madrid in the summer, as long as the president rectifies what he said." Gomez told AS.

"The president of Atletico must apologise. We are not spiteful and everything can be fixed if he retracts what he said.

"My son is going to have offers, it is unquestionable because he is a proven forward, as he has shown in all these years.

"But he keeps thinking about going to Atletico because he would like to play under Cholo [Diego Simeone]."

Cavani came off the bench in PSG's 5-0 win against Montpellier at the weekend, but was an unused sub during their 2-1 win against Nantes on Tuesday evening.
