Edinson Cavani's absence from team hotel leaves Manchester United fans fearing the worst

Edinson Cavani's absence from the team hotel last night ahead of Manchester United's clash with Manchester City has raised questions over his involvement in the clash.

The Uruguayan was left out of his country's squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Argentina and Bolivia for "medical reasons" and he wasn't pictured arriving with his United teammates at the Lowry Hotel.

He was praised for his role in the win over Spurs as Cavani led from the front alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, scoring the second goal, his first of the season, before he was forced off late on. Despite trudging off in the dying embers, he did feature in the draw against Atalanta in midweek.

The 34-year-old's role in the starting line-up was important as he helped ease the workload on Ronaldo in the North London triumph as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opted for a system change after the defeat to Jurgen Klopp's side.

And the news of a possible absence left some fans fearing another Liverpool repeat, but for some they thought the mind games were already in force.

Victor Lindelof didn't travel to Bergamo for Tuesday's Champions League clash after picking up a knock during the preparation for the visit to Italy and wasn't spotted with the squad at the hotel on Friday evening.

He was selected for Sweden's upcoming qualifiers but Solskjaer remained uncertain of his return. Speaking in Friday's press conference, he said: "Lindelof? He's still a doubt, but hopefully, he can come back in tomorrow and say that he's ready. I would expect him to be ready, to put it that way, but I can't promise you."

Paul Pogba is still suspended for the clash with Eric Bailly set to maintain his place from the offset after his start in midweek.
