Edinson Cavani opens up Neymar relationship ahead of Man Utd vs Paris Saint-Germain

Edinson Cavani has opened up over his relationship with Neymar during their time together at Paris Saint-Germain.

The Uruguay international left the French champions in the summer after seven years at the club.

During his time at the Parc des Princes, he became their all-time top goalscorer and formed a tremendous trio with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe after they joined.

But with such huge egos came turmoil, with Neymar and Cavani hardly seeing eye to eye.

One incident saw the duo nearly come to blows over penalty duties and their relationship has been sour ever since.

And Cavani has broken his silence on the two's bond, or lack of one.

"We are very different, we didn't share many things and we think in different ways," said the striker, per SPORT. "That doesn't stop you from getting along.

"In the group we didn't all have to be friends or brothers.

“The important thing is to be friends on the pitch, protect each other, run for the other.

“What cannot be negotiated is respect and commitment on the pitch with your team-mates.

“Later in the dressing room you don't have to have a mate or go out to eat with everyone.

“The one time I argued with him, as everyone knows, was that game against Lyon.

"Everything they said afterwards is not true. Ney is a good kid."

Cavani signed for Manchester United on deadline day and has already set himself some big targets.

“I hope I can score plenty, and I’ll be working hard towards doing that," he told United’s official website .

“As I said earlier, I’m coming here with a real desire to work hard and to prepare, and to be available for my team-mates and to the manager for selection.

"I want to be able to take all that effort and hard work out onto the pitch, and together be able to achieve great things, big things with Manchester United.

“I’m so keen and excited to get playing and competing again, and God willing, I can score goals, which is pretty important for everybody and also for me, as a striker. For the fans, for everyone.

“So, as I said, I'm dying to start training so I can be ready to be scoring goals, so we can all enjoy them and have some good times together.”
