Edinson Cavani 'opens' Manchester United talks but wage demands threaten to scupper deal

Former PSG striker Edinson Cavani is in talks with Manchester United over a potential move to the club - according to a report.

The Uruguayan free agent has been offered to most of Europe's top clubs but now United will consider a deal for him if he lowers his wage demands.

ESPN report that they are actively in talks to try and get him in, although it wouldn't need rushed through before Monday's deadline because he is out of contract.

United currently have Odhion Ighalo on loan at the club until January but do want more attacking options to support the front three of Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.

The 33-year-old has been available since leaving PSG in the summer after seven years in the French capital.

The Uruguayan hitman scored an incredible 138 goals in 200 league appearances in France after initially impressing in Serie A.

Now he could have a chance to show what he can do in the English Premier League if they can agree a deal.

Cavani struggled for game time at PSG last season with Kylian Mbabbe and Neymar leading the line.

He played just 22 games in all competitions with seven goals scored.
