Edinson Cavani delivers Chelsea transfer blow as striker's promise set to extinguish Premier League move

He's the man of the moment as teams across Europe circle to secure added firepower during the January transfer window.

Yes, we're talking about Paris Saint-Germain marksmen Edinson Cavani.

The 32-year-old might be entering the twilight of his career but the Uruguay football legend still has plenty to offer the right team.

Cavani has found his opportunities in Paris limited this season with the emergence of Mauro Icardi - a fearsome option as part of a front three alongside world stars Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

And now a host of teams are circling around the former Napoli hero with Atletico Madrid and Chelsea leading the way for his signature.

Manchester United have also been linked but it's Frank Lampard's side who are most interested in his services.

But the Blues, fresh off the back of their wretched 2-2 draw with 10-man Arsenal, are set to have more reasons to be in the dumps with Cavani set for a switch elsewhere.

It's understood he has already promised Atletico he will join them and contract terms have already been discussed to take the forward to the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

Diego Simeone is a long-term admirer of the striker and he is desperate to land a transfer gem to reignite his side's disappointing season.

Atletico are eight points adrift of Barcelona and Real having only scored a paltry 22 times in 20 league games this season.

Simeone is under no illusions that Champions League glory will be an uphill task with defending champions Liverpool awaiting them in the last 16.

And that's why he's pulling out all the stops to land the biggest transfer of the January transfer window.

Cavani's vow comes hot on the heels of his dad revealing he would prefer his son to make the switch to La Liga.

As quoted by  El Chiringuito TV  , Luis Cavani said: "He wants to leave PSG. I would like him to sign for Atletico Madrid."
