Edinson Cavani is edging closer to a move to Barcelona and is even willing to take a pay cut, according to reports.
The attacker returned to the United squad for the first time in almost two months, coming back from a tendon injury in time for their Monday night game with Newcastle.
But before that, Cavani had only played eight times this season and made just two starts.
Cavani scored in October’s 3-0 win over Tottenham — his sole goal of the campaign — prior to his injury.
He has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona in recent weeks and now Spanish newspaper Sport (via Sport Witness) claim the Uruguayan is closing in on a January switch with the transfer ‘well on track.’
It is reported that the La Liga giants are hopeful that United will terminate his contract on Tuesday, allowing him to move on a free — the only type of transfer that cash-strapped Barca would consider. The outlet says 34-year-old Cavani, whose United deal ends this summer, would be willing to sign a one-and-a-half-year deal and take a pay cut.
Meanwhile, the Express reports that Tottenham have joined United in the race for AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie.
The player’s representatives have reportedly been contacted by Spurs after he rejected a £5m contract offered by his current employers.
Kessie has scored five times in 16 Serie A appearances this season. United were touted as potential suitors for the 25-year-old with his contract expiring at the end of the season.
The Sun also reports that Ralf Rangnick is eyeing Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Luca Netz as a potential target.
The 18-year-old, who can also play at left-back, has earned three caps for Germany’s Under-21s.
Earlier this year, Netz opened up about rejecting a move to Manchester City but it seems he could still end up in Manchester.
