Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo to start - Manchester United predicted line-up vs Man City

Manchester United welcome Manchester City to Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer survived the Liverpool debacle to remain in charge of United for the Reds' games against Tottenham and Atalanta, but the pressure on the Norwegian continues to be significant heading into the all-important Manchester derby.

United went behind twice against Atalanta in midweek in the Champions League, but Cristiano Ronaldo's brace salvaged a draw.

Ronaldo has now scored a total of nine goals in 12 appearances since his return to the club on deadline day and he'll be hoping to continue in that rich vein of form against City this weekend - Pep Guardiola's side have conceded just six league goals, though.

David de Gea should have done better for Atalanta's opener on Tuesday night but that's the first dubious goal that the Spaniard has conceded in an otherwise outstanding season and he's a certain starter in between the sticks against City on Saturday.

Solskjaer used the 5-3-2 formation again versus Atalanta, however, he was forced to revert to 4-2-3-1 during that match. Raphael Varane sustained a hamstring injury in Italy, which led to that tactical change, and he's been ruled out for around a month.

Although Varane is unavailable through injury, it seems Solskjaer might opt for five at the back against a strong City side here and that means we could see Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Eric Bailly, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw starting in defence.

Lindelof sustained a knock in training earlier this week but Solskjaer confirmed on Friday that the Swede is in contention to start.

Fred and Scott McTominay impressed against Tottenham and they can rekindle their trusted relationship in the centre of the pitch.

Donny van de Beek came on for Bruno Fernandes in midweek but the latter is an inevitable starter against City.

Marcus Rashford started in Bergamo and Mason Greenwood provided an outstanding assist from off bench, but Edinson Cavani and Ronaldo excelled alongside each other at the focal point of attack against Spurs and the experienced pair can start again.

Predicted United XI vs City: De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Bailly, Maguire, Lindelof, Shaw, McTominay, Fred, Fernandes, Ronaldo, Cavani.
