Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo to start - Manchester United predicted line-up vs Atalanta

Manchester United play Atalanta in the Champions League on Tuesday night at the Gewiss Stadium.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side responded to their 5-0 humiliation against Liverpool in perfect fashion at the weekend when beating Tottenham 3-0 in London and they'll be hoping to win consecutive games for only the second time this season.

Atalanta took a two-goal lead at Old Trafford when both sides last met until a transformed United took control of the second half to complete a sensational comeback thanks to goals from Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Despite Saturday's win in the Premier League, the pressure remains on Solskjaer and this week is perhaps the most important in the United boss' managerial career - the Reds will take on Manchester City on Saturday after they play Atalanta on Tuesday.

David de Gea has been one of the standout performers in an otherwise underwhelming season for United and that's telling. The Spaniard's place as United's No.1 is certainly no longer under threat and he'll start in between the sticks against Atalanta.

Solskjaer used the 3-5-2 formation against Tottenham and that proved to be an inspired decision amid intense pressure.

The back five can consist of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Raphael Varane, Maguire, Luke Shaw and Alex Telles. It would have likely remained unchanged here, but it was announced on Monday afternoon that Victor Lindelof hadn't made the travelling squad.

Solskjaer claimed Scott McTominay was his Man of the Match against Tottenham and it would be unwise to disrupt his partnership with Fred in the centre of the pitch when the stakes are so high. Bruno Fernandes can start just ahead of the pair.

The United boss admitted that he can't hide the Reds' 'need' for Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani's experience after Saturday's win and that suggests that the pair could make the starting XI again here, albeit they will need delicate handling long-term.

Predicted United XI vs Atalanta: De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Maguire, Shaw, Telles, McTominay, Fred, Fernandes, Cavani, Ronaldo.
