Edinson Cavani agent explains why Manchester United transfer didn't happen

Edinson Cavani's agent claims the striker could have joined Manchester United for a lot of money in the January transfer window.

United were interested in signing a new forward last month and eventually agreed a loan move to secure the services of Odion Ighalo on deadline day.

MEN Sport reported last month Paris Saint-Germain wanted a fee close to £25million for the Uruguayan, whose contract expires in the summer, meaning a loan exit was always highly unlikely.

The 32-year-old also attracted interest from Atletico Madrid in the winter window but an exit away from the Parc des Princes never materialised.

Speaking about the transfer saga Cavani's agent insisted a move to the Premier League could have happened, but that the player didn't want to chase the money.

“Cavani was willing to receive less than with PSG,” said his brother Walter Guglielmone.

“Atletico could not cover the total economic cost of the operation and PSG did not want to lower the amounts he was asking for. Atletico Madrid did not close the agreement.

“Do you think that Edi did not play for almost a month at PSG so that I could drop the operation for a commission and that Edi did not fulfill his dream of going to Atletico Madrid?

“If it were for money, Edi would have gone to England, Manchester or Chelsea.”
