Edinburgh Zoo welcomes cute little Bagot goat kid that is yet to be named

By Kris Gourlay

Edinburgh Zoo have welcomed a cute little baby goat into the world after the tiny kid was born earlier this month.

They shared pictures of the adorable little Bagot goat that is the offspring of first-time parents, Patrick and Janice.

The tiny male is yet to be given a proper name, but has been delighting visitors and winning over their hearts as he enjoys exploring the enclosure with his mum, Janice, by his side.

Bagot goats are believed to be Britain’s oldest species of goat and are now finding a new role as important conservation grazers, clearing invasive scrub and woodland species to promote biodiversity in the ground, which is beneficial to other amazing animals and wildlife.

The Zoo's two female goats, Janice and Judith, were both named by pupils at Dalkeith High School, so a similar process could be followed in naming the new-born.

The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) has welcomed threatened species in Scotland for over 100 years now, with Edinburgh Zoo remaining one of the city's most popular tourist attractions.

The Zoo and Highland Wildlife Park, are home to almost 3,000 amazing animals, with cutting-edge science and research also carried out by a workforce at the park.

Earlier in May, the team announced the exciting news of the first baby penguins of the season being born.

The RZSS announced the welcomed arrival of two endangered Northern Rockhopper Penguins, the first of the year's breeding season. As well as breeding penguins and other such animals in captivity, they also carry out a lot of work to help preserve animals in the wild.
