Edinburgh Zoo welcomes arrival of tiny dik-dik calf with adorable name

Edinburgh Zoo has welcomed a new Kirk's dik-dik calf.

The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) celebrated the occasion by sharing "beautiful" photos and a video of the adorable baby animal on Tuesday morning.

The tiny female youngster has been named Petal. She was born to mother Noodle and father Drax, the former of which appears with her baby in the new photos.

In one of the images, Petal and Noodle can be seen exploring Edinburgh Zoo’s African Aviary enclosure. The video, meanwhile, shows Petal getting used to her surroundings.

Taking to Facebook to share the news, Edinburgh Zoo wrote: "Say hello to our Kirk's dik-dik calf.

"Born to parents Noodle and Drax, our tiny new arrival Petal is growing in confidence every day and can be spotted exploring the African Aviary!"

One commented: "Gorgeous! I've only ever seen them at Edinburgh Zoo a few years ago and they were fab."

"So cute," said a second, while a third echoed: "Beautiful".

Kirk’s dik-diks are native to the grasslands of Eastern Africa, and one of four species of dik-dik. Growing to a height of just 40cm, they are one of the smallest species of antelope in the world.
