Edinburgh Zoo Spooktacular: How to get tickets to the illuminated Halloween event

Edinburgh Zoo is celebrating Halloween a bit differently this year.

On certain dates between now and the big night itself, guests can attend its Spooktacular event.

After 5.30pm each night, the zoo opens its doors and allows ticketholders on a "family friendly spooktacular trail through the zoo".

The illuminated trail will allow guests to see the zoo after dark, where they will be introduced to "lots of different characters", including witches, wizards, scarecrows, and spiders.

Tickets for the event must be booked in advance, and many nights - particularly those close to Halloween - are almost sold out.

Here is everything you need to know about Edinburgh Zoo Spooktacular.

When is Edinburgh Zoo Spooktacular?

The zoo will be running the event on select dates from October 8 to October 31.

The exact days you can attend is not consistent between weeks, so it is worth looking on the zoo's website to see which dates are suitable.

Slots to book are available at 15-minute time intervals between 5.30pm and 7.30pm.

How long does the show last?

According to Edinburgh Zoo's website, the route is around one mile long, and will take most guests approximately an hour and a half to complete.

However, ticketholders are permitted to stay until 9pm, no matter which timeslot they booked.

Will I get to see any animals?

Unfortunately, it doesn't look that way.

On the event's webpage it states: "It’s very unlikely you’ll see the animals as at that time of year they’ll mostly be in their indoor enclosures where it’s warm!"

For those wanting the full Edinburgh Zoo experience, including seeing some animals, there are special VIP packages available that include a day ticket.

Are tickets still available?

Tickets for most of the days the event is running are still available.

However, dates closer to Halloween - including the 31 itself - currently have "limited availability", indicating that they will likely soon sell out.

If you're looking to go to the event to on or close to Halloween, you should book tickets as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

How much are tickets?

The price of tickets for Edinburgh Zoo Spooktacular range from zero to £18.44, including booking fees.

Carers with valid ID will be able to access the event for free, as will those under the age of three.

Tickets for children between the age of three and 15 are £12.02 each, while an adult ticket will set you back £18.44.

Child members of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland will get a discounted rate of £9.35, while adult members will be required to pay £14.70.

There is also the option to buy a "VIP Package" for the event, which includes a ticket to the Spooktacular itself, as well as a day ticket to the zoo and a meal at its Grasslands restaurant.

Prices for the VIP tickets range from zero to £53.42.
