Edinburgh Zoo koala dies leaving keepers devastated

A beloved koala has died at Edinburgh zoo leaving keepers devastated.

Alinga began suffering health problems forcing vets to put her to sleep as her quality of life deteriorated.

The Queensland animal was an 'amazing' mum to four joeys and even became a grandmother last year.

After arriving at the zoo in 2013 Alinga instantly became a huge hit with tourists and her handliers.

Now keepers are paying tribute to the adorable koala who will 'be greatly missed.'

Edinburgh zoo said: "We're sad to announce the loss of our Queensland koala Alinga who had been experiencing age related health problems.

"Taking into account her quality of life and wellbeing, our vets and animal keepers advised that Alinga should be put to sleep to ensure she did not suffer.

"Alinga raised four joeys since arriving at Edinburgh Zoo in 2013 and was an amazing mother, recently becoming a grandmother for the first time when her eldest daughter, Kalari, gave birth last year.

"She will be greatly missed and our thoughts are with everyone who cared for her."

One person said: "Aww sorry to hear that. It’s so sad RIP Alinga."

A second person said: "So sorry to read this. Beautiful lady who was loved and well cared for by you."

A third person said: " I love visiting the kolas at the zoo , sad to hear ur gone but better not to suffer."
