Edinburgh Zoo afternoon tea created by Waldorf Astoria with tiny flamingo pastries

Feeling like a taste of the jungle?

This week, a city-centre hotel has launched a brand new Edinburgh Zoo themed afternoon tea, as the charity looks to raise vital funding after lockdown.

The Waldorf Astoria has now created an animal orientated selection of treats in honour of the zoo that will be available later this month to sit-in and takeaway.

According to the hotel, the new menu will feature a Chilean Flamingo, Queensland Koala, Giant Panda, Giraffe, King Penguin and the “Oops, I Dropped The Ice Cream” pastries.

There will also be a selection of finger sandwiches and scones, with a gluten free range also on offer.

Offered both as a regular and vegan selection, £5 from each order will be donated to the Edinburgh Zoo fund to "support their great work".

There are also vegan and gluten free options. (WA)

Priced at £70 for two, the afternoon tea will be available from April 26 until June 30, and you can order a set here.

The RZSS charity had launched a fundraising drive during the pandemic to ensure their animals could still be cared for despite the drop in visitor numbers.

With the cost of caring for all animals on site estimated to be more than £2,000, the zoo is now allowing visitors from all over Scotland to return from today (April 16) due to the easing of travel rules.

From April 26, this is set to expand to people from all over the UK as the border with England is opened.
