Edinburgh workmen make treacherous descent from Castle Rock in heavy snow

The duo could be seen clearly in their orange high visibility gear as they abseiled on ropes from the castle esplanade.

Pictured at around 1pm on Tuesday, the pair appeared to be carrying out some essential maintenance work as they clung onto the rock.

The rock itself appeared to be extremely icy and covered in snow as the two men got on carefully got on with their job.

The slope leading from Princes Street Gardens to the Castle is known to be exceptionally steep and very dangerous to those who are not trained professionals.

As the capital remains blanketed in snow, an amber weather warning has been put in place for the rest of the day, with a yellow warning to carry on into Wednesday.
