Edinburgh worker 'held up for nightshift' due to Obama convoy at Stenhouse

An Edinburgh worker was held up for their nightshift after the former US President’s motorcade held up their bus at the Stenhouse Cross.

The worker, who wishes to remain anonymous, said that they had been travelling on the 30 Lothian Bus and were making their way to their night shift at work via a stop at Sainsbury’s for a mid shift snack.

President Obama had been speaking at the COP26 conference earlier that day in Glasgow and is understood to have travelled from the west to his temporary residence at the Waldorf Astoria.

The worker managed to capture a picture of Obama’s police escort outside of the luxury hotel.

Obama took a swipe at world leaders saying that not enough has been achieved and that more must be done when speaking to a full house at the conference.

He also took time to criticise his successor Donald Trump for pulling out of the Paris Climate Agreement that he had helped set up in 2015.

Taking a direct dig at China and Russia, he said it was particularly discouraging to see the leaders of "two of world's largest emitters China and Russia decline to even attend the proceedings" and it showed a "dangerous lack of urgency".

Obama also referred to Scotland as the 'Emerald Isle' and then went on to quote Shakespeare before making his way back to Scotland’s capital.

On the incident, the worker said: “Thankfully it did not make me late but it was touch and go as we waited for the convoy to pass us at the Cross.

“Although he is lucky I managed to get to Sainsbury's for my piece, otherwise he would have got an angry tweet.”

It is rumoured that the former president was devastated to discover that Edinburgh institution, John Bain & Son, was closed, meaning that he was unable to sample their world renowned pies.
