An Edinburgh woman has started a GoFundMe page to pay for taxis for NHS staff in Edinburgh fighting Covid-19 on the frontline.
The fund, which has already raised £355, is being managed by Debbie with support from Edinburgh Central Taxis.
As soon as the fund reaches £1,000, it will be available to use, with Central Taxi's providing free taxi rides for NHS staff at a discounted rate.
Debbie was inspired to start the GoFundMe after seeing the success of a similar movement in Glasgow.
Debi McKay told Edinburgh Live: “My friend Scott set up the Glasgow fundraiser and as soon as I saw it I wanted to try to do the same in Edinburgh.
“We know it’s a tough time for everyone but also that the people of Edinburgh are keen to support the fight in any way.
"A small donation can go a long way so I’d encourage everyone to chip in, help us reach the £1,000 mark as soon as possible so we can begin helping the NHS heroes who would really benefit from this offer."
To those who can afford to and wish to donate can visit the GoFundMe here.
The fund is designed to support NHS staff travelling to and from an Edinburgh hospital involved in the fight against coronavirus and who are struggling for transport and money.
They are asked to phone 0131 229 2468 to book a taxi to any Edinburgh hospital or back, quote NHSTaxi when booking and then NHSTaxiGoFundMe to confirm booking. Finally, NHS staff using the service must show NHS ID to the driver at the start of the journey.
