Edinburgh woman rushed to hospital after being struck by a car in Portobello

An Edinburgh woman has been been rushed to hospital after being struck by a car in Portobello.

Emergency services raced to Portobello High Street, near the Brighton Place junction this afternoon ,around 2.55pm.

The pedestrian was taken by ambulance to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. Her condition is not yet known.

The accident has caused a number of traffic delays with part of Portobello High Street closed down.

Lothian and East Coast Buses are currently unable to serve Portobello High Street, Abercorn Terrace and Joppa Road and are being diverted via Milton Road East and Sir Harry Lauder Road.

Edinburgh Travel News who are run by Edinburgh City Council warned that due to the ongoing incident there is heavy traffic southbound on Sir Harry Lauder Road.

They said: "Portobello RTC Porty High Street at Brighton Place / Bath Street. Please allow from some delays in the area. Buses are currently diverted, details at https://bit.ly/3xHWS07

"Ongoing incident at Porty High Street / Brighton Place junction. Lengthy delays in the area and heavy traffic southbound on Sir Harry Lauder Road."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "At around 2.55 pm on Monday, June 21, officers were called to a report of a woman struck by a car on Portobello High Street.

“She was taken by ambulance to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.”

Edinburgh Live has contacted the Scottish Ambulance Service for comment.
