Edinburgh woman raises enough to bring partner's body home after tragic holiday accident

An Edinburgh woman was able to raise nearly £20,000 in less than 24 hours to bring her partner's body home after he died in a tragic accident on holiday.

Andy Kerr had lost his life in a cliff diving incident while on holiday in Portugal, leaving his girlfriend Karolina and his family devastated.

Last week, Karolina described Andy as the "love of my life" as she launched a fundraiser to allow the Scottish family to bring his body back to the UK.

After raising £19,000, Andy's father, Stuart Kerr, had flown out to Faro Airport to bring his son home and attend official registraton requirements, reports the Record.

In a post, Stuart had given an emotional thank you to all who had helped raise the funds so quickly.

Stuart said: “You guys are awesome.

“My heart has been lifted by your generous donations.

“Glad to be home.

“Worst trip ever. Thanks for all the kind words.”

After passing away on May 28, heartbreaking images online showed Andy, from Paisley, on a night out at Ingliston Country Club with family just days before his death.

He published a photo with his mum, saying: “Me n mum. Love ya xxx.”

Jane Kerr’s reply said: “Love you back more than you will ever ever know.”

The exact circumstances of his death, or where it happened, have not emerged.

Speaking at the time, Karolina described her partner as her "best friend" in an emotional tribute, writing:

Andy was the love of my life, best friend, my rock."Andy dedicated his life to helping and motivating the others to achieve their best, to improve their lifestyle, to become successful.

"Charming, independent, energetic and compassionate, Andy was and will be our mentor, who could have changed the world with just an idea, and he did change the world for lots of people, including myself."
