Edinburgh woman hospitalised after dramatic Granton Harbour rescue mission

A woman pulled form the Firth of Forth during stormy conditions has been hospitalised after getting into difficulty off Edinburgh.

Police and lifeboat crews were forced to carry out a rescue to guide the stranded woman back to shore on Monday morning following a series of calls relating to the incident at Granton harbour.

Emergency services, including a team from the Scottish Ambulance Service, rushed to the scene in torrential rain which caused severe flooding over the previous 24 hours.

They discovered the struggling woman calling for help off the eastern breakwater after becoming stuck shortly after 11:40am on Monday morning.

Crews from the RNLI station at Kinghorn in Fife assisted police in their efforts to reach the injured party, who was eventually taken ashore and passed into the care of paramedics for treatment.

It was one of several callouts for the volunteer lifeboat crew during the period of inclement weather.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 11.40am on Monday, 5 July, 2021, police received a concern for person call at Granton Harbour, Edinburgh.

“Emergency services attended and the person has been taken to hospital for assessment."
