Edinburgh woman arrested after man found injured on busy Leith street

A woman has been arrested in connection with an incident in Leith after a man was found by the roadside.

Officers responded to a concerned call from a resident following reports of a man being injured on Great Junction Street in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Two police cars containing at least six officers attended the call shortly after 12am, according to one local.

A 42-year-old man was later confirmed to have suffered an undisclosed injury and received treatment at the scene.

A 31-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the incident but has since been released while a probe is carried out.

One local resident said: “The police seemed to be hanging around for ages, I’m not sure what was happening but there were at least six officers surrounding someone.

“I heard a little bit of shouting but it was hard to make out what was going on. I saw them taking at least one person away. Hopefully it is not too serious and everyone is safe.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson added: "Just after midnight on Saturday 11 September, police received a report of a 42-year-old man being injured in Great Junction Street.

"Officers attended and a 31-year-old old woman was arrested in connection with the incident.

"She has since been released and enquiries are ongoing."
