Edinburgh Wetherspoon shuts after staff and customers fall ill in 'norovirus outbreak'

An Edinburgh pub has closed its doors for deep cleaning after a suspected norovirus outbreak.

As Edinburgh Live reported on Tuesday morning, the Foot of the Walk pub in Leith was closed with a message posted on their front door claiming the circumstances were 'out with their control'. A spokesperson for JD Wetherspoon has now confirmed 'some customers and staff' reported being well.

The sign read: "A sign on the doors of the Foot of the Walk reads: "Due to circumstances out with our control, our pub will be closed until further notice. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

The chain has now confirmed they are doing a deep clean from a specialist agency, and will reopen on February 15.

Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: “There was a suspected norovirus outbreak at the pub with some customers and staff reporting unwell.

"The pub has been closed as a precaution and the pub is undergoing a thorough deep clean by a specialist hygiene agency. The pub will be reopen Wednesday morning.”
