Edinburgh weather: Yellow warning as capital set to be drenched by two days of wind and rain

Edinburgh is set to be battered by wind and rain for much of the day, with further weather warnings in place on Wednesday.

SEPA has issued a flood warning for the central belt, alerting Scots to the possibility of dangerous river and surface water flooding.

The Met Office has also issued a yellow weather warning for the west of Scotland that will be in place until 3pm today and are warning that "heavy and prolonged rain" is expected through Tuesday and much of Wednesday.

According to BBC Weather, Edinburgh and the Lothians should expect "strong winds and heavy rain" today with more heavy rain and "gusty winds" set to hit the capital tomorrow.

Train operator Scotrail has announced speed restrictions due to the wet weather and warned customers to expect delays.

The rest of the week doesn't look great either for Edinburgh and the Lothians, with Brits being warned a 'rollercoaster' weather cycle will blast the UK next week as temperatures plummet.

The last of the Autumn heat is set to be replaced by freezing temperatures and according to the BBC, the mercury will drop below zero next week on Thursday in the capital, with highs of just seven degrees set to plummet to -1°C.

Tom Morgan, a meteorologist at the Met Office, said: “It’s going to be a bit of a rollercoaster next week with a spell of unsettled weather on the way.

“It will be fairly mild on Monday to Wednesday, especially in the southern regions, and will be a lot brighter and drier than what we’ve seen across the weekend, though rain will still come and go.

“It’s a different story for the rest of the UK, which will be considerably colder and wetter, with up to 150mm of rainfall expected in mountainous regions of Northern Ireland, Scotland and northern England.”
