Edinburgh weather: When will the sun return to the capital in mostly cloudy week

It looks set to be a predominantly cloudy week ahead, though Edinburgh may see brief glimpses of the sun at some points.

According to the Met Office, the next seven days will likely be very dull and grey for the most part.

The weather service states that on Monday, Edinburgh skies will turn "cloudier through the afternoon", with temperatures holding steady at around 12 degrees Celsius for much of the day.

These clouds are a harbinger of things to come for the remainder of the week, with Tuesday in particular set to be an overwhelmingly dull day.

Although the chance of rain is mercifully low - mostly hanging between 10% and 20% - the Met Office has clouds predicted for the entire day.

On the plus side though, it's predicted to be a mostly dry week, and after Tuesday, Edinburgh locals may even be treated to brief glimpses of the sun.

Skies on Wednesday look set to be "cloudy changing to sunny intervals by lunchtime".

How long these bursts of sun last, and when exactly they're set to take place, isn't known for definite, but the Met Office predicts around 1pm is a likely bet.

It's a similar story on Thursday and Friday, with the sun expected to peek out at about 4pm on the former day and 10am on the latter.

Unfortunately, it's back to solid grey skies for the weekend, with no sunshine at all expected on either Saturday or Sunday.
