Edinburgh weather: When capital can expect snow as temperatures set to plummet

Snow could be on its way to Edinburgh as temperatures remain cold and are set to drop even further in the coming weeks.

As West Lothian and outskirts of Edinburgh saw some of the white stuff earlier last week, the capital city missed out on the snow day.

However, weather forecasters are expecting some more snowfall later in January.

This week, temperatures are mild, stilling between 6° and 8° but by the 26th temperatures are set to drop to just 5° and 0° at the lowest.

According to Accuweather, snow and rain is forecasted for that week with a 65% chance.

The Met Office's long range forecast for January 25- February 8 warns of snowfall. And while temperatures will be mostly average, colder intudles are expected.

They say: "A more unsettled regime is most likely during late January and into early February with spells of wet and windy weather followed by brighter but showery interludes. Northwestern areas are likely to be wettest with southern and eastern areas seeing the best of any drier interludes.

"Overall temperatures are most likely to be near or a little above average though some colder interludes are possible. Snow could fall to lower levels at times in any colder interludes but is most likely over higher ground in the north."
