Edinburgh weather: what happened to the snow - and how's the forecast looking for the rest of the week?

There's no doubting that it's been especially chilly over the last couple of days but what about the snow Edinburgh was promised?

The city was told we could wake up to our first snow of the decade on Tuesday, with a weather warning in place for much of the morning.

The first snow of the year was expected to fall on Monday night, with a mix of rain and snow showers starting around 10pm.

However, if you had been hoping for a snow day off work, you would have been bitterly disappointed because not a single flake came to pass.

The weather warning was lifted before lunch time and the rest of the week, while absolutely freezing, has not even seen a light dusting of snow.

And it's bad news if you were keeping your fingers crossed for a white February because it looks like Edinburgh's chance of snow has come and gone.

After heavy downpours yesterday, Edinburgh is in for a wet couple of days on the weather-front, with rain forecast every day - apart from Friday.

In fact, it's a pretty miserable outlook with clouds and the threat of showers until the end of the week...but still no snow, so you can put away your wellies.

However, according to the Met Office, temperatures could rise to highs of eleven degrees over Thursday and Friday before dropping back down on Sunday.
