Edinburgh weather: Warning as gusts of up to 60 mph to hit city and Lothians on Friday

Residents in Edinburgh and the Lothians should brace themselves for more high winds, with yet another weather warning in place for when we head into the weekend.

The city and East Lothian will be worse affected, with powerful gales expected to roll in on Friday evening, at around 8pm, and last until midday on Saturday.

Gusts of between 50mph to 60mph are possible inland, while they could reach up to 70mph in coastal areas where there will be large waves and spray.

The Met Office has warned there is likely to be travel disruption, especially for high-sided vehicles, and there may be power cuts.

Tuesday's high winds saw travel chaos, with two lorries overturning on the A1 in East Lothian, despite warnings not to use the exposed route.

The drivers, a 47-year-old man and 36-year-old man, have now been reported to the procurator fiscal by police.

Meanwhile, train passengers faced major delays getting home yesterday evening after an overhead electric wire came down at Haymarket, which saw a platform out of action for several hours.
