Edinburgh weather: Travel disruptions to continue into Monday as heavy rain batters the central belt

Flood alerts have been put in place across the central belt as heavy rain is set to continue across Edinburgh.

As the aftermath of Storm Aidan continues to sweep across the country, conditions are expected to be pretty bleak until Monday morning.

South Westerly winds are also predicted, however the Met Office has stated that these will be far weaker than the strong gusts that were present on Saturday.

However, travel operators have warned that there will be disruptions and delays across their services in and out of Edinburgh in the next 24 hours.

ScotRail have warned passengers to check their journey before travelling today due to "adverse weather conditions", stating:

"This will affect services between Glasgow Central - Ardrossan Harbour/Largs and also between Edinburgh and Helensburgh Central via Airdrie."

Although Sunday looks to be a miserable one, forecasters have stated that the worst of the weather will pass by later this afternoon, with set to bring a few occasional showers but stay mainly dry.

The rest of the week also looks to be a lot brighter, with sunny intervals and clearer skies to appear almost every day until the following weekend.
