Edinburgh weather to warm up as temperatures set to soar to 18C in 'Indian summer'

Temperatures in Edinburgh are set to soar as high as 18C this week as the sun returns for an Indian summer.

After days of gloomy skies and heavy rain, the sun came back out on Wednesday morning - and temperatures are set to remain above 10C for the rest of the day.

That's only the beginning, though, as the capital is set for another mini heatwave this week.

On Thursday, although the sun will be obscured by clouds for much of the day, it is predicted by the Met Office to be an exceptionally warm one for the city - by October standards anyway.

This is due to a plume of warm air brought in by the remnants of Hurricane Sam.

Mini heatwave set to hit Edinburgh on Thursday

Edinburgh locals will notice the difference in heat as soon as they wake up, with temperatures expected to hit 14C from as early as 6am.

From then things only get hotter, with mercury set to steadily rise throughout the morning and early afternoon - eventually reaching a peak of 18C at about 2pm.

Around this time, the sun is also set to come out for a few hours.

The warmth will continue into the evening, with temperatures holding steady at 17C until roughly 11pm, after which they are expected to drop slightly to 16C for the rest of the night.

According to the Met Office, the good weather is set to continue into Friday - with highs of 18C again predicted.

Things are set to cool off slightly over the weekend, but Edinburgh locals should still be able to enjoy a dry Saturday and Sunday with temperatures above 15C.
