Edinburgh weather this weekend: When to expect rain showers in the capital

It looks like the days of awaiting the next heatwave are now officially behind us this year, as we inch closer and closer to autumn.

The wet and the cold aren't quite here yet though, and the next few days look to be warm and pleasant - for the most part.

According to the Met Office, the weekend will start "mostly dry, and bright" with sunny intervals before turning cloudy for much of the remainder, with the occasional light patch of "rain or drizzle".

Here is a full roundup of the weather across the weekend:

Friday

Although the weather is set to remain cloudy for the rest of the day, temperatures look to remain relatively pleasant.

They will reach a peak of 18 degrees at around 2pm, and will stay around there for most of the evening.

Saturday

According to the Met Office, Saturday looks to again be "mostly cloudy", with some "low cloud or mist" making an appearance in the early part of the day.

After that, the sun is expected peek out for a few hours between 10am and 2pm.

Temperatures are predicted to again peak at 18 degrees - at around 3pm - and will remain warm into the evening, before cooling off to 15 degrees by 10pm.

Around this time, rainclouds will begin to loom over the city, and the chance of rain through the night is very high.

Sunday

Following on from the overnight rain, Sunday is set to be a wet one.

However, the showers are expected to very light and the sun will likely make brief appearances throughout the day.

Temperatures are expected be mild - reaching a peak of 16 degrees at 1pm - but the chance of rainfall will hover at around 50% for most of the day, making planning any outdoor activities a risk.
