Edinburgh weather: These are the odds of a white Christmas this year

Whether you want to admit it or not, Christmas is very much on the horizon.

This year, the festive season in Edinburgh is set to be a very different one, with most of the usual events cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, one thing that coronavirus can't change is the weather, with bets already being put on whether or not the city will have a white Christmas.

It has been a while since Edinburgh was coated in snow on Christmas Day itself, but if the odds are correct, the capital is one of the front running cities in the UK to see it this year.

According to Paddy Power, the odds on Edinburgh are sitting at 4/1, as well as Glasgow and Dundee.

Other cities such as Leeds and Belfast are coming in at 6/1, with Bristol and London the least likely at a much greater 10/1.

A long range forecast by the Met Office also seems to predict snow on higher locations such as Edinburgh, and stated:

"Towards the end of the month and into early December temperatures likely to turn colder, increasing the likelihood of any night frost and wintry precipitation, especially at any northern high ground."

So, with big Christmas parties and nights out off the cards, perhaps we can all partake in some socially-distant sledging instead.
