Edinburgh weather: summer weather wipeout as city set for week of rain

The weather in Edinburgh hasn't been the best in recent days with much of the past days seeing cloud and rain.

And while we did have the odd sunny spell, it's not quite the June weather we were hoping for. Not that we are shocked.

Scotland's summer wouldn't be Scottish without rain, and it seems this is set to continue into July despite temperatures staying in their double figures.

According to forecasters, the warning came into force today (June 28) at 2am and will last until 6pm the same day.

Taking to their website they said that "a period of heavy rain during Tuesday may lead to some minor flooding for southwest Scotland". As a result, this could lead to a flooding of a "few homes and businesses."

Edinburgh will miss out on the weather warning. (Met Office.)

In addition, they warn the public that they can expect bus and train services to be affected with journey times taking longer. They also add that spray and flooding on roads could yet again add to travel times making the journey longer.

In an update about the warning the Met Office explained: "Heavy and persistent rain accompanied by strong southerly winds will affect southwest Scotland for much of Tuesday, clearing to the east by early evening. Rainfall totals will be widely 20-30 mm, whilst high ground in the west, particularly around the Galloway Hills, could see 50-60 mm."

Although Edinburgh is set to miss out on the warning, much of today is set to remain wet with heavy rain predicted until at least 4pm.

So with Edinburgh's weather looking a little dreich today, what does the week ahead look like?

Met Office Edinburgh's five day weather forecast
