Edinburgh weather: Strong winds could cause loss of power and travel chaos this weekend

High winds could cause "short term loss of power" and travel chaos in Edinburgh this weekend.

A Met Office weather warning for gusty winds will be in place in Edinburgh on Saturday – running from 6am to 10pm.

Forecasters say the conditions could cause disruption to road, rail, air and ferry transport with bus and train journeys affected. High-sided vehicles could also be hit with delays, especially around bridges.

Those at the Met Office add that "some short term loss of power and other services is possible" while "it's likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities affected by spray and/or large waves".

The worst of the wind is expected in the capital around midday with gusts approaching 50mph likely. It's also set to rain for much of the day.

Parts of East Lothian will see strong winds arrive today (Friday), with a yellow weather warning in place from 8am to 8pm. Some travel disruption is possible, with road and rail transport to be worst affected.
