Edinburgh weather: Storm Brendan to hit Scotland on Monday, bringing gales and rain

The stormy weather isn't done with us just yet, as more gales and rain are due to hit Edinburgh and the Lothians on Monday.

A weather system named Storm Brendan by the Irish Met Office is about to collide with Scotland, hitting the north west of the country first.

We can expect the wind to really pick up in the east of Scotland later on Monday morning.

STV weather presenter Sean Batty says this is one of the few times a storm can accurately be called  a "weather bomb."

The low-pressure system will be caught in a jet stream which makes it much deeper, a process called "explosive cyclogenesis."

While the morning commute might stay dry in Edinburgh expect things to turn nasty in the afternoon.

Flood warnings are in place for large parts of Scotland and the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning covering the west coast and the north east.

We could see more travel disruption in East Lothian as 55mph gusts are possible. Earlier, lorries overturned on the A1 when strong winds hit the road.

Heavy rain and high winds caused travel delays on Saturday, including train lines to Glasgow being blocked by floods.
