Edinburgh weather: Shopper captures moment gusts blow roof clean off trolley shelter at Morrisons

A shopper captured shocking scenes at a local Morrisons car park in Edinburgh this morning, as gusts of over 40pmh managed to blow the roof clean off a trolley shelter.

Kevin Rafferty took to Twitter to share a clip of the incident, which is believed to have taken place at the supermarket in the south-west of the city, in the Hunter's Tryst area.

He wrote: "Bit blowy in Edinburgh today."

The latest spell of bad weather is hot off the heels of Storm Ciara and Storm Dennis, which saw the Queensferry Crossing close for over a day and disastrous flooding hit towns and villages in the Scottish Borders.

And now it looks like the capital will have to batten down the hatches for the third weekend in a row after the Met Office issued yellow weather warnings for wind on Saturday – running from 6am to 10pm.

Forecasters have said that "some short term loss of power and other services is possible" this weekend, while "it's likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities affected by spray and/or large waves".

Meanwhile, if you are desperate to know when you will be able to leave the house without your umbrella, here's the exact time that the weather will stop being horrendous - according to the Met Office.
