Edinburgh weather: Severe conditions could bring heavy snow between Christmas and New Year

Edinburgh could be in for some pretty cold conditions next week, as forecasts predict some heavy snow across the country.

As well as a level four lockdown, the city may also experience some truly wintery weather in the days to come.

Earlier this week Edinburgh Live reported that the capital could see a White Christmas, however that may now carry on after the big day.

According to the Met Office, "unsettled conditions" will approach closer to Hogmanay, with cooler temperatures and higher winds to follow.

With the north of the UK to get the worst of the weather, the forecast continued:

“An area of high pressure is expected over the west of the UK during Christmas Day and Boxing Day, bringing cold and generally dry conditions for most.

"A few showers may occur in eastern coastal areas, and light rain and stronger winds will affect the northwest.

“Fog formation and overnight frosts are possible over these days, more so in the south.

“Towards the new year, a shift to far more unsettled conditions is looking likely. Atlantic low pressure systems could bring potentially stormy weather at times, with strong northerly winds, heavy rain, and potentially snow.

“These conditions being more severe in the north but could affect all areas of the UK at times. Temperatures either close to or below average for the time of year.”
