Edinburgh weather: Serious snow warnings issued as arctic blast hits Scotland

A series of further weather warnings have been issued for Edinburgh this weekend as heavy snow is expected to hit the capital.

In recent weeks, wet and icy conditions have made their way across the country, with the coming days to be no different.

Today, the Met Office issued a yellow warning for the city, as well as other parts of Scotland, that will begin on Saturday (February 6).

An amber warning has also been set out for the highlands, with heavy snow and ice forecast.

According to the Met Office, the warnings will remain in place throughout Saturday, Sunday and Monday (February 8).

Anyone making an essential journey over the weekend has been urged to take extra caution, and to avoid travel if possible.

Yellow warnings also predict other disruptions such as power cuts, delays to public transport and some interruptions to other services.

Those using public transport have been advised to keep up to date with their provider and allow extra time for any journey they make.

With temperatures sitting somewhere between 2C and freezing, ice warnings have also been displayed.

The forecast has shown that conditions should ease into Tuesday, with further rain and milder temperatures expected.
