Edinburgh Weather: BBC forecasts snow for the weekend as wintry showers blow in

If you are preparing to head out this weekend, then it may be best to grab a brolly as showers are expected to rain down on Edinburgh - with a possible chance of snow.

The BBC weekend forecast for the capital shows that Edinburgh will be lulled into a false sense of security on Friday, March 3 with some sunny spells with a slight breeze, albeit still rather chilly with highs of 7C.

If you do have plans to get out and about, then it is worthwhile aiming for Saturday morning and afternoon where the weather is expected to remain relatively dry despite heavy cloud cover in the skies.

For the Hearts game at Tynecastle, be sure to pack a waterproof jacket. The rain is expected to start at around 6pm and will continue right through the night and into Sunday morning.

Therefore it is important to make sure you get any washing out on the clothing line back into the house before the darkness sets in on Saturday evening.

Temperatures will peak at around seven degrees during the day.

Sunday could see the beginning of wintry showers that are expected to be a feature for much of next week, as a cold spell travels down from the Atlantic. Those in Edinburgh are predicted to see some sleet first thing in the morning from 6am-8am.

There is little chance of showers through the afternoon but the BBC predicts that if we are to see some rain then it is likely to come at around 3pm.

In the evening, temperatures could drop to zero from the high of six degrees and as midnight approaches, we may see our first signs of snowfall. Snow could fall throughout the night until 8am on Mondays temperatures could plummet to -2C.

Sleet showers could which will continue to fall until 7pm when we see snowdrops return to our skies. The snow could last until midnight and into the early hours of Tuesday morning.
