Edinburgh weather: 'Persistent' snow to hit Midlothian for next three days according to Met Office

Midlothian is set to be hit with "persistent" snow with a Met Office weather warning in place for the next three days.

Snow showers are expected to arrive at 3pm today (Saturday) just south of Edinburgh, with Bonnyrigg and Penicuik among the areas set to face the worst of the weather.

Experts say that transport may be affected with "longer journey times by road, bus and train services" should higher routes become impassable. They are also warning of a small chance vehicles and passengers could become "stranded" on higher trunk routes in the Central Belt area.

A map produced by the Met Office shows the area set to be hit by snow. The A702 and A68 are both likely to be affected.

The warning, which also covers parts of Fife and the Borders, will be in force until midday on Monday (2 March).

A number of Met Office weather warnings have been issued for the Edinburgh area in recent weeks and months, with strong winds and heavy rain and regular feature throughout the start of 2020.
