Edinburgh weather: More heavy snow on the way amid Beast from the East 2 warning

February is shaping up to be the coldest month on record in Scotland after bookies slashed odds amid warnings the country should brace themselves for "Beast from the East II".

With temperatures set to plummet to -10C in parts of the country, forecasters have warned of weather-induced travel chaos.

And now leading bookmaker Ladbrokes cut the odds on this winter ending as the coldest since records began in the UK to 1/3 as temperatures continue to drop, reports the Daily Record.

Storm Darcy's freezing easterly winds, which lead to blizzards, snow drifts and ice, have seen Edinburgh hit with a yellow weather warning, while Fife, Falkirk and parts of West Lothian are under an amber weather warning for snow.

Forecasters have said up to ten inches of snow could to build up across the Central Belt, with trains between Glasgow and Edinburgh already seeing "significant" disruption this morning as a result.

The Met Office predicts this spell of freezing and snowy weather could last all month due to pressure between Iceland and Greenland, while Sean Batty wrote on social media that the weather had a Beast from the East feel to it.

The capital is to be blasted with more snow tomorrow, with yet another yellow weather warning in place.

"It looks as though we're set for a record-breaking cold winter as the odds continue to drop with the temperatures," Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said.

January 2021 was the coldest it's been since 2010, with an average temperature of 2.2 °C across the UK.
