Edinburgh weather: Met Office suggests a white Christmas for the capital as cold front approaches

With less than a week to go until Christmas, the festive period will look very different this year, with restrictions meaning a lot of normal traditions are off the table.

As households are now only allowed to mix inside for one day, with a lockdown to follow, things may feel very out of the ordinary.

However, one thing that may be heading for the capital is a white Christmas, after both the bookies and the Met Office have hinted Edinburgh has the best chance of seeing snow.

Currently, Edinburgh stands with odds of 2-1 for snow on the big day, with hopes it will brighten up what is set to be a rather bleak time.

However, if you are not a believer in the odds, the Met Office's forecast for the days over Christmas have also suggested that snow could be on the cards.

In their predictions, forecasters said that the area will see "the greatest chance of showers, with these falling as snow in places, especially on higher ground".

"Prevalence of overnight fog and frost is likely increasing, with fog potentially slow to clear. Temperatures either close to or below normal."
