Edinburgh weather: Met Office shares exact time heavy rain and wind to hit capital

After Edinburgh residents have had to endure strong winds and grey clouds, heavy rain is forecast for the capital.

Locals woke up to grey clouds today, Wednesday February 2, but the Met Office reports that it will remain dry for the day - but showers are expected in the night.

The Met Office say: "A few more outbreaks of rain but around Edinburgh and eastern areas remaining mostly dry and cloud breaking here, becoming breezy during the night. Mainly dry by dawn. Minimum temperature 8 °C."

However looking towards tomorrow, the Met Office forecasts heavy rain for Thursday evening.

From 7am Edinburgh can expect blustery winds with gusts starting at 31 miles per hour and these will gradually increase through the day.

They will hit 42 mph by 4pm and by 5pm, will be joined by rain.

However, these winds will hit 43 mph at the highest at 6pm then die down to 38 mph at 7pm just as Edinburgh will be battered by heavy rain.

As the downpour hits the city, the wind will ease more into the 30s and will sit at 29 mph for the rest of the night.

The Met Office reports for Thursday: "A mainly dry day but staying quite cloudy and breezy. A spell of heavy rain spreads south in the evening leaving fresher conditions in it's wake. Maximum temperature 9 °C."

And the outlook for the weekend: "Colder with wintry showers on Friday, some lying snow possible, strong northwesterly winds. Milder on Saturday but cloudy and strong winds, wet overnight then returning to cold blustery conditions Sunday."
