Edinburgh weather: Met Office say capital set for week long heatwave as temperatures reach 26C

The capital is set for more hot weather this week with forecasters predicting highs of nearly 30C over the next week.

According to the Met Office and BBC, the heatwave has already started with today (August 8) seeing highs of 21C.

On Tuesday (August 9), the city's temperatures will soar to 23C and again the following day with highs of 25C.

This is set to go up yet again with Thursday (August 11) set for highs of 26C - the highest temperature all week. On Friday, the sun will still be out with highs of 25C.

The weekend will also remain just as warm with 20C predicted across both days. As well as the high temperatures, the chances of rain are low throughout with less than a five per cent chance of it happening.

Today

Dry and bright with some good sunny spells as high cloud clears in the afternoon. Feeling warm in the sunshine, particularly in eastern parts of the Borders. Maximum temperature 22 °C.

Tonight

Dry with clear periods and high cloud spreading in from the west by the morning. Temperatures will stay mild overnight. Minimum temperature 15 °C.

Tuesday

A dry and increasingly bright then sunny day with temperatures trending up. Feeling very warm in the sunshine. Maximum temperature 24 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

A dry and bright with plenty of sunshine, temperatures trending up. Feeling very warm or hot in the sunshine.
