Edinburgh weather: Met Office predicts when to expect sunshine in the capital

Summer is officially over as we welcome a new month and Halloween fans dust off decorations.

After a mild September, October is predicted to be an unsettled month, according to the Met Office.

Edinburgh has already seen some heavy showers and this week is mostly expected to be cloudy.

However, the Met Office have forecasted that the city will welcome some sunshine. A thankful break from the downpours.

On Wednesday October 6, there will be sunshine on Edinburgh. With sunny intervals from the morning at 8am, the cloud will lift at around 10am and the city will have a bright sunny afternoon through to 4pm.

By 7pm, skies are set to become overcast again with cloud.

Thursday and Friday the cloud is expected to stay but Saturday is looking more brighter.

According to the Met Office, Saturday will be cloudy but will change to sunny intervals by late morning.

By reaching 16 degrees by 1pm, sunshine will be breaking through the cloud by 10pm and Edinburgh locals can enjoy the warmer temperature until the evening with the sun setting at 6.30pm.

Looking forward to the week after, the Met Office have predicted more cloud for the whole of the UK.

Met Office say: "Later into next week, cloudy conditions are expected with occasional rain that is at times prolonged and heavy across western Scotland and Northern Ireland accompanied by strong winds across northwestern coasts. Elsewhere, dry with variable cloud and some clear and sunny spells, with the most sun in southern and southeastern areas. In addition, light winds will allow for some patchy fog to develop overnight which may locally be slow to clear.

"Temperatures are expected to be above average through this period. Into the following week, this northwest-southeast regime is likely to persist, with any spells of rain and potentially strong winds to the northwest. Drier and more settled elsewhere, however, there is a likelihood of some slight showers affecting areas further southeast with temperatures also returning to nearer average."
