Edinburgh weather: Met Office predicts heatwave heading to the capital

It's fair to say we've seen something of an improvement so far as Edinburgh's weather goes in recent days and weeks.

It was only around a month or so ago we were experiencing a dip in temperatures, lots of rain and bizarrely some springtime snow flurries. Those sizzling summer afternoons looked a long way off.

However things have changed a whole lot since then, and unquestionably for the better.

Forecasters at the Met Office reckon the warm weather we saw last week and into this weekend will continue for the next seven days at least.

On Sunday we should see plenty of sunshine, and maybe a little cloud, with temperatures around 17C and 18C for much of the afternoon. It's likely to be 15C as late as 10pm tonight – so it could be a cracking evening to sit out in the garden or park.

But what's the rest of the week looking like?

Edinburgh weather forecast on Monday

The start of the week looks cloudy but warm. Experts suggest we may see less sunshine on Monday than Sunday, but things don't look too bad considering.

Temperatures are likely to be around 12C or 13C throughout the morning before rising to 17C in the late afternoon and early evening. There's a ten per cent chance of rain throughout the afternoon, but let's not worry about that too much.

Edinburgh weather forecast on Tuesday

It looks set to heat up a whole lot on Tuesday, according to those at the Met Office. We're likely to see some early morning sun with temperatures around 16C before we reach midday.

But it's in the afternoon we enter into heatwave territory (for Scotland, anyway). It could hit 19C by 4pm and remain as warm well into the evening. In short, Tuesday looks a cracker.

Edinburgh weather forecast on Wednesday

Its a similar story on Wednesday with very little chance of rain, some sunshine and warm weather. Again we're looking at the mid to late afternoon as the best time to be out if you like the heat, with temperatures peaking around 4pm. Expect the mercury to hit 18C around 4pm.

Edinburgh weather forecast on Thursday

Thursday could be the best of the bunch, if the seven day forecast is anything to go by. Experts at the Met Office say we could hit 20C in Edinburgh, with high-teens expected from around 10am onwards. There might be some cloud in the afternoon but we should see plenty of sun.

Word of caution though, wind speeds are likely to pick up with gusts of 34mph and 35mph in the afternoon.

Edinburgh weather forecast on Friday

We could see a slight retreat to temperatures of around 15C and 16C on Friday, but that's still not bad, right? The best of the sunshine is likely to arrive early in the afternoon and in the evening around 7pm.

You can check out the full forecast on the Met Office website.
